USA Subsidy Schemes
Federal loan guarantees, tax incentives and grants in the United States — what each one gives, who may apply, and what an Indian founder or investor should check first.
SBA 7(a) & 504 Loans
Bank loans up to $5 million with an 85% or 75% federal guarantee, and 504 loans for land, buildings and machinery with as little as 10% down.
Qualified Opportunity Zones
Defer US capital gains tax by reinvesting the gain in a Qualified Opportunity Fund within 180 days, and pay no federal tax on the new growth after a 10-year hold.
SBIR & STTR Eligibility
Who can receive federal research funding: a for-profit business, more than 50% owned and controlled by US citizens or green card holders, with 500 employees or fewer.
USDA Value-Added Producer Grant
Up to $50,000 for planning and $200,000 for working capital to farmers and producer groups who process and market their own produce, matched one to one.
Research Credit (Section 41)
A federal income tax credit of 20% on qualified research spending above a base amount, and 20% on basic research payments to universities and research bodies.
EXIM Working Capital Guarantee
A bank working capital line for exporters of US-made goods and services, with the Export-Import Bank of the United States guaranteeing 90% of it.
The USA schemes side by side
Each line is taken from the scheme's own page, which names its source. Open a scheme for the full rules, documents and dates.
Important for Indian clients: the SBA loans and the SBIR and STTR research funding count only owners who are US citizens or green card holders — the EXIM working capital guarantee is the exception, and accepts a US-formed company that is foreign-owned. The Opportunity Zone incentive helps only a gain that is taxed in the United States, and the research credit counts only research done there. Check the ownership and the tax position before you incorporate, not after.
