Worldwide Subsidy

Expanding abroad? Government loans, grants and tax incentives outside India, read by our Chartered Accountants and set out in plain words — starting with the United States.

Three things to check before you look abroad

Most schemes outside India are written for that country's own citizens and taxpayers. These three questions settle most cases before any paperwork.

1

Who owns the business

Some United States programmes — the SBA loans and SBIR research funding among them — count only owners who are US citizens or green card holders. There, an Indian parent company or a visa holder does not count towards the majority.

2

Where the tax is paid

A tax incentive helps only income that is taxed in that country. A gain taxed only in India gets nothing from a United States tax break.

3

Where the business operates

Grants and guaranteed loans go to a business that is based and operating there, not to an Indian company exporting to that market.
